My little boy was born a week ago today. He's amazing and beautiful (yes I'm shamelessly biased but really babies are amazing!!!).
The birth didnt go to plan AT ALL -- went into labor Thursday 15th around 3 a.m. and lost my mucus plug (ICK). Little bit of blood contractions every 8 ms or so. Called my OB at around 9 a.m. and she said to go to L&D. They hooked me up to monitors baby looked great but I was only 2c dialated so they sent me home and told me to come back when contractions were 5 ms apart --- so back home till 9 p.m. that night and then back to L&D where my Dr was MIA, and the OB on call from my practice had 7 patients in labor. She was too busy to see me (UGH) but the nurse got my info to her and to my horror she said come back when you've had 1/2 hour worth of contractions at 3 ms apart. I should have said HELL NO as I was in significant pain and the babe was sunny side up so back labor was awful...but I wasnt thinking at all by this stage so home we went.
Horrible night of contractions I couldnt count as I was a mess then at 3 a.m. a realy painful contraction and my water broke. Agony. DH took me to the hospital and they checked me in at 4 a.m.; my contractions were every 2 - 3 ms and I was 8 cm dialated....no anesthisiologist in sight and no epidural till 5.30 a.m. and the OB on call FINALLY showed up then too. I'd been in labor for over 26 hours by time the epi kicked in and felt like heaven compared to how I'd felt --- but the OB said William wasnt low enough, and my cervix was "swollen from all that labor" (go figure) so....she told me we should do a c section. I was to tired to care. It was a rough one too, I won't go into details but there was some extra bleeding and he was hard to get out -- the proceedure took twice as long as with the twins -- and I was in and out of conciousness.
But --- William was born at 6.35 a.m. PERFECT and beautiful and that's all I cared about. He was just over 7.5 pounds and 19.5 inches.
We got home on Tuesday and I'm really enjoying just cuddling with the little bean. I didnt love the baby stage but this time its great. Preemie twins vs a healthy full term (6 days past due date) baby is so different.
Dad's thrilled, brother and sister have been wonderful and are really doing great having him home too.
