It's a little strange, because what good is there trying to come up with some opinion or verdict on the situation when you don't have all the facts, and you only have one side of the story? It is all very well and good to vent about something, but what are we supposed to say that will be at all helpful?

frankly,i would take what the grandparent said with a grain of salt.

i know for a fact that there is some disagreement in what MIL thinks of our raising our children.

Well, if you don't blink, you should be okay ;) (Plus, it's good training for when they're teens and you ought not to blink for OTHER reasons! LOL)

Well, when you get on here and talk about your mother-in-law, I figure you at least have first hand knowledge of YOUR interpretation of the relationship. And if some husband was to get on here and complain that his wife is never home, I would figure that the husband had some personal knowledge and personal stake in it. But bringing up some third-party's issues and problems from the perspective of an outsider, and expecting anything useful or accurate to come out of it? Not gonna happen.

I think it would have been an interesting debate if you had addressed the many questions about gender and role reversal instead of the direction that it went.
