I guess I'm just stuck in my ways, and i'm only 29 :)
I live in central BC, Canada. The closest zoo is 2 hours away in Kamloops and I dont think they have zebras but I remember they have a kodiak bear and a bengall tiger. THe town i live in isn't necessarily small, and there are some larger towns within 1-2 hours drive, but we dont have things like aquariums (there's a nice one in vancouver we got to visit while visiting family in July), or zoos or historical sites, or cool stuff like that.
Which is why in 2 summers were planning a drive down the oregan coast, to the San Diego zoo, over through vegas, to see the sights and up the grand canyon, So our DD can see all that. Hopefully we will be able to afford it. We plan to rent a camper and stay in campgrounds.
We might just have to agree to disagree on the subject of tv. :)
My mother in law started lecturing me last week about how I should talk to my 15 yo dd about how oral sex is still sex and she can still get STDs, etc. We had that conversation a LONG time ago. We actually watched (gasp) a TV special about that together. Teenagers nowadays are under the assumption that oral sex is not "sex." Wonder where they got that idea.
Well, we could fill your head with the Safety Dance; that's the song I use to exorcise really horrible songs that get lodged there ;) On the other hand, Conjunction Junction has it ALL over Honey (and thank you SO much for sticking THAT lovely tune in my head ;) Now I have to do an exorcism.... "You can dance if you want, you can leave your cares behind..."
I was talking to a friend in when our kids were in hs, and a comment she made hit home....she said, "i drink a lot of wine". LOL, join the club. i am in no way a drinker, but it does calm the nerves when you are in the height of raising teenagers. i feel for you!! LOL.
No you didn't. There is nothing "educated" about your decision. You have said repeatedly that you and your husband have a limited social life and just enjoy watching tv for 3 or more hours a night in place of any other possible thing you could be doing. That's a preference not an "educated" decision.
Really? Since when? Because according to this post to grimskeeper you don't do anything of the sort. How does one educate themselves when one neither reads nor researches the studies?
"Research? I don't bother wasting my time searching for research. I raise my dd without going by, reading, researching studies and "finds"."
BTW, it took me all of 5 minutes to find that quote by typing in studies to the search function. I knew that I remember you saying that you never read studies, but didn't want to refute your post without the proper proof of you very own words.
I don't read studies or put in to stock the studies she posts in the woh vs sah, kids flourish better in daycare environment, sah doesn't spend much if any more time with their kids than woh studies, that fathers parent less when mom sahs studies, on, on, and on of those blubbering idiotic studies that no I wouldn't waste my time looking at, reading, finding, so why would I raise my dd & live by them? I wouldn't & don't. I have not looked up those studies. I don't live my life by those studies. I don't raise dd by them.
Looking at breastmilk, yes, I do believe the studies. That is why I breastfed. I did read the studients.
Looking at tv, yes, I looked at those studies, read articles. I don't think they are wrong, but I don't think they apply well in raising of my dd.
I don't look up studies & follow living procedures my research like Grimal. But I do read certain studies & I may or may not follow them as with bm & tv.
When I made the comment to Grimal, I was talking about this crazy stuff she comes up with & lives by. Not the usual stuff like tv & breastfeeding.
I'm sure, being the nature of your posts, you will want to get into a fuss over this. Have it at. Enjoy yourself. I'm not posting back to you because it isn't worth my time to repeat the truth over when I said it the first time here in b&w.
FTR. 3 hrs tv M-F & any we watch other than that I don't see any problem with in raising our dd.
Sorry for any typos. I've got strep & not feeling well enough to check for them.

I read the research.
We don't live by it.
I educated myself on the research that is out there.
I don't disagree with it. But we don't live by it.
