I think that pre-paid phones instill a different phone use ethic in kids. With "X minutes per month" plans, people (and not just teens) seem to feel that they really *have* to use their minutes to get their money's worth. They get in the habit of lots of chatting just because the phone is there.
Our wireless phone are prepaid; I pay cash on a card for mine, but since DH uses his for work, too, he has set up an auto-top-up with his CC; when his balance gets under $5 it tops up automatically. When DS is old enough to be out and about on his own, I'll get him one, too. I doubt he will abuse it; he knows now that wireless phone time is expensive and for informational calls only; we don't *chat* on them, b/c if you did, how would someeone reach you if they need to give you important information? He'll be borrowing ours at first, I'm sure, and he will learn pretty quickly that if I get a busy signal more than once, I'll use the GPS beacon on the phone to track him down and embarrass him REALLY badly in front of his friends.
The downside here is that US carriers charge to receive calls as well as to make them; if your balance goes to zero you can't get calls, either.
But my decision (and Paige's) are considered UnEducated because they are not the same as the majority here on the subject of TV. They dont match your decision on TV. Which is a sad way to look at it.
We're not uneducated. Education is knowledge. Not going with what one or more group deem as "what's right". Because the "right" thing to do in life (on *Any* subject) is extremely fuzzy. I do what I feel is right.
Well I am not asking her to agree with *me*. I am asking her to defend her debate platform and explain how it is an educated decision. Perhaps explain why the studies dont apply to her child. And since she has gone back and forth on whether or not she actually reads studies or research, I question the validity of her assertion that she has read the studies and they dont apply to her child.
Nope, I dont understand it. And I cant understand equating watching a tv show about Paris with acutally going there. But if you have never BEEN anywhere, I guess you have absolutely nothing on which to base your opinion.
So are you saying that 3hrs a day of tv during the week, and unlimited tv on the weekends, would be appropriate for your child? Just want to clarify exactly what it is you are agreeing/disagreeing with.
Honestly I could really care less that you and paige watch excessive amount of tv, it doesn't even faze me except for curiosity sake, which she indulges my strange questions from time to time very nicely.

Who said you had to defend your daily habit of tv and how you live?

To me an educated decision is to look at issue for all sides and make an informed decision based on the facts one has gathered and read.
