Affording to Stay at Home

Ever notice that those moms that SAH are usually (although not always) more well off than mothers who WOH? It seems to me, based on what I have seen, that while most women enjoy working their jobs and having a professional life outside of the home, some women prefer to stay home with their kids for a certain amount of time - whether it be 1 year or 10 years - and those women have the option to do so, while other women wouldn't even consider the option because they feel they can't afford it.

Well, it has been my experience that most women who do stay at home have

1) husbands who support the idea

2) Husbands who probably earn enough (or almost enough) to support the family.

3) Enough money to support themselves without working.

**Now I am not talking about people who get help from government agencies, I am speaking about women who do it with no outside help - just seems like most women can't because of financial reasons. So, is being a SAH mom now an "upper class" phenomenon - in general? Of course there are many SAH moms that are middle class, but if they chose to have paying jobs, they'd probably move right back up into that higher income bracket.

Have you ever been there?

We have and did not see everything that we are going to show the kids. We are planning to go to the Museum, Caves and Zoo with them. There is alot of history if you are interested in that also.

Am I really that much out of the ordinary that I like the relaxation of a beach and slow living compared to the hustle and bustle of the city? I do LOVE being in Times Square but it does NOT compare to sitting with a nice drink, on a beach, listening to a steel drum band. Just my own opinion though-lol!!

Really? You wouldn't like to show your kids Disney? My dd has been there twice already and we will bring our son probably in a couple of years. My dh used to live in FL so he has been there about 20 times and we together about 5. I wouldn't go there every year but it is nice to do it at least once, especially with kids.

Yes, I've been to NYC (more than six times, remember?), so I do realize it's expensive.

Yes, I've been, at a 5 star resort - nothing wrong with hedonism. But let's call it what it is.

If I had to choose either or, yes I would pick the Caribbean anyday-lol!!!

I have to say that I WOULD like to do New Years Eve one time in my life in Times Square but am thinking as I get older and my back hurts me more that I would like to be in the warm Marriott at the window watching and not standing in the crowd-lol!! One day when the kids get older and we can afford the room for the night-lol!!
