Affording to Stay at Home

Ever notice that those moms that SAH are usually (although not always) more well off than mothers who WOH? It seems to me, based on what I have seen, that while most women enjoy working their jobs and having a professional life outside of the home, some women prefer to stay home with their kids for a certain amount of time - whether it be 1 year or 10 years - and those women have the option to do so, while other women wouldn't even consider the option because they feel they can't afford it.
Well, it has been my experience that most women who do stay at home have
1) husbands who support the idea
2) Husbands who probably earn enough (or almost enough) to support the family.
3) Enough money to support themselves without working.
**Now I am not talking about people who get help from government agencies, I am speaking about women who do it with no outside help - just seems like most women can't because of financial reasons. So, is being a SAH mom now an "upper class" phenomenon - in general? Of course there are many SAH moms that are middle class, but if they chose to have paying jobs, they'd probably move right back up into that higher income bracket.

I prefer to call it a vacation when I take my kids to places like the beach or an amuzement park.

I'd prefer to live in a place with a generous sprinkling of higher achieving adults and kids.
Bwwwaaaahhh.
Of course, any experience can be educational and a learning opportunity.
Let's call it like it is.

Or, she may be thinking that she does not expect her neighbor, whether a rocket scientist or an auto mechanic, to teach her child about happiness and what really matters in life.
Maybe it is just me, but where I come from my kids friends parents don't sit down and teach other peoples kids anything.
I wouldn't call the beach a vacation because I can do that any day.
Where did I say we go to Disney on a regular basis? We haven't been there in 6 years.
I think anyplace you take your children can be a learning experience. Even doing something at home you are teaching them things. My dd LOVES to watch the Sci-Fi Channel, the History Channel and the Discovery Channel. She learns something new everytime she watches them.
I had NO desire to ever going to Disney either - there is so much to see and do in this world that I'd rather spend my money elsewhere.
Well then there is the astronaut that drove across the country in a diaper to kill the woman getting in her way of an affair..
Shall I go on?
