Affording to Stay at Home

Ever notice that those moms that SAH are usually (although not always) more well off than mothers who WOH? It seems to me, based on what I have seen, that while most women enjoy working their jobs and having a professional life outside of the home, some women prefer to stay home with their kids for a certain amount of time - whether it be 1 year or 10 years - and those women have the option to do so, while other women wouldn't even consider the option because they feel they can't afford it.

Well, it has been my experience that most women who do stay at home have

1) husbands who support the idea

2) Husbands who probably earn enough (or almost enough) to support the family.

3) Enough money to support themselves without working.

**Now I am not talking about people who get help from government agencies, I am speaking about women who do it with no outside help - just seems like most women can't because of financial reasons. So, is being a SAH mom now an "upper class" phenomenon - in general? Of course there are many SAH moms that are middle class, but if they chose to have paying jobs, they'd probably move right back up into that higher income bracket.

What 5 star resort in Bermuda did you stay at that you are calling "hedonism?"

Its not the Caribbean. Its not club med style over the top.

Some funny things about BDA --- public nudity (even walking across the stree without a shirt)-- illegal. Homosexuality up till the late 90's -- illegal. The list goes on. Its a pretty proper place compared to US, Caribbean, and other destinations...

Some people can do it and if your kids are really good, it is even easier :)

Did you really live there for 5 years? I am soooooooooooo jealous. We have been there once for our 1st anniversary almost 14 years ago and we loved it. We can't wait to show our children the beautiful island this summer.

Are you familiar with La Trattoria, the Italian Restaurant? We loved it and went there twice in the 4 days we were there-lol! I also like the Louis Vuitton store :)

I thought the same thing but didn't want to say anything because I know some hotels have changed but did read about the "nudity" rule.

I'd like to know which hotel it was too. We went to the beach at Elbow Beach Hotel and it was beautiful (not sure if this is a 5 star hotel though). We were thinking of staying in a hotel when we cruise there but it would be very expensive and we already have a room on the ship!

My trip to Bermuda was the definition of hedonism for me, pure adult pleasure.

Which hotel did you stay at? The one we went to has changed names and it is more of a business hotel now.

Bermuda is widely acknowledged in the Gay community as a "for the love of God don't vacation there" kind of a place
"If gay Americans are not allowed to get married and have all the benefits that American citizens are entitled to by the Bill of Rights, they should get one hell of a tax break. That is my opinion,"

- Jeane "Dear Abby" Phillips, in an interview with Lisa Leff.
