Affording to Stay at Home

Ever notice that those moms that SAH are usually (although not always) more well off than mothers who WOH? It seems to me, based on what I have seen, that while most women enjoy working their jobs and having a professional life outside of the home, some women prefer to stay home with their kids for a certain amount of time - whether it be 1 year or 10 years - and those women have the option to do so, while other women wouldn't even consider the option because they feel they can't afford it.
Well, it has been my experience that most women who do stay at home have
1) husbands who support the idea
2) Husbands who probably earn enough (or almost enough) to support the family.
3) Enough money to support themselves without working.
**Now I am not talking about people who get help from government agencies, I am speaking about women who do it with no outside help - just seems like most women can't because of financial reasons. So, is being a SAH mom now an "upper class" phenomenon - in general? Of course there are many SAH moms that are middle class, but if they chose to have paying jobs, they'd probably move right back up into that higher income bracket.

Once my kids are all in school I don't want a houseful of kids all day.
THAT is my worst nightmare, lol.

And then there are those of us who DO own our own homes. And they're apartments.

It is just too bad that we don't pay people based on how important their jobs are. Could we imagine a USA where teachers are paid a sports-star salary and the athletes were paid based on how important their jobs were? In my opinion, the teachers would still be underpaid.
For my child, being around children who's parents are poor are simply a reminder of how grateful he should be that he is spoiled by his Grandparents.
He also has friends who have much more than we do and on two occasions told me that a kid was rude when he was demanding that his parent take him somewhere or buy a toy the child wanted. I think it's cool that he recognizes those things and he wonders why the friend acts as if it's a right to go or to get the toy. Those sort of life-lessons build character.
Newsflash:
Lunch does not always add an hour to the work day. My last job we worked an 8 hour shift. 30 minutes for lunch, but full time hours were 37.5/week. Anything over that was time and a half.
Not everyone uses a daycare center that's next door to their house. Many people use daycare situations that are close to work, hence the drive time would NOT count as hours the child is in daycare.
And there are all the children whose parents stagger their workday. Such as my ex and his wife. He leaves for work at 6am. She leaves after putting the kids on the school bus. He gets off work at 3pm and is home in time for the school bus. She works until 6. He gets the kids going with homework and starts dinner and they all eat together at 6:30.
when the kids were in daycare, they were only there for about 6 hours a day, again because of the staggered hours deal. And they napped for at least 2 hours of each day. so again, not even close to the hours you keep trying to claim as the norm.

The lady I speak of is licensed and is keeping 6 kids a day and making $800 a week. She says her expenses are only about $75.00 a week. My teacher friend could probably make more in another school but she wants to work close to home.
I tried daycare, then I tried after-school only care...the ladder worked much better but the cost of repairing/replacing my kids toys and my household items just wasn't worth it.
Why is being spoiled by grandparents a virtue? I, personally, don't allow the grandparents to spoil my children; they are
My kids are spoiled by everybody.

Seems kind of low if she's feeding 6 kids lunch (and maybe breakfast) and snacks M-F.
