Yes, I have often wondered how different my uncle's life might have been had he had some help. I too am glad that your son has services available to him. I think it can make a big difference.

It's amazing how well some AS people managed to do in spite of not getting the type of services they do now.

FTR, I am pretty sure my uncle would have received an ASD dx of some kind had he gone to school today. He was kicked out of school after the 9th grade for being too odd basically. Still he has led a very successful life, even if he had his challenges along the way.

Thanks, it's nice to think that DS2 could go that way, and nice to remember that even typical people are sometimes slower on speech.

My uncle is like your son, as is my dad to some extent. They did not speak till they were past 4. I asked my dad if it was because they could not, that wasn't it. Then I asked if it was because they had twin language, that wasn't it either. Finally he thought a little and said that they just did not feel any need. There was not anything they were interested in communicating to other people. My father is somewhat talkative as an adult, but my uncle either says nada, makes naughty comments to the ladies or else monologues. He has the monologuing down to an art, IOW, he comes across as a charming raconteur, not a monomaniac.

Yes, it is standard procedure to separate twins now. The rationale is that they tend to be lumped together even if people don't mean to do so. Separating is to support individual development. This is also why parents are advised NOT to dress them alike etc.

My dad and uncle are twins and back then nobody thought of separating them and their mother delighted in dressing them alike. They have never really separated. It is quite odd.

Our school does it too, but we're a middle school.

"getting the word out about the products" is called "advertising" and you're not allowed to do it except on one of the boards specifically designated as such. One of the CMs can tell you which one it is. This one isn't one of them.

I'm glad you were able to get your son into a better classroom.
