Anything wrong with stuff?

Often MSAH state that the reason mother work is for "stuff"

If there anything wrong with that?

I don't think so, as long as someone is not doing anything illegal or immoral to acquire that stuff I don't see a problem.

The first half of our marriage we had to count every penny. The last few years there are very few limitations on getting what we want. (it has much more to do with my DH's changing job status than my SAH/WOH status). I like it a lot better now.

Do you think that everyone who has stated things they do and buy are trying to "impress" others?

Nope.

And what do YOU consider that attitude to be? Can you please give me an example.

I agree that many people are jealous of others but when someone talks about something that they are proud of accomplishing the end goal is they want to impress.

Because of my job I move in circles of fairly extreme wealth when i'm working -and without fail the donors I work with who are the wealthiest, are the most modest about their means, and what their lifestyle affords them and they are generally the ones who are philanthropic for the purest of purposes. The donors who constantly tell me about their newest acquisition are generally the ones who are trying to impress and who are also the most concerned with what they "get" for their donation. Working in my line of work is a fascinating study in human behavior.

I have to disagree.

Yep. My "head" boss never talks about how much money he has or what he has bought. And even my friends and family (who can afford more) always say what type of sale or discount they have gotten on things.

I personally am MORE impressed if you are able to get an expensive item for MUCH less by sales, coupons, discounts, etc. I find someone MUCH smarter to NOT pay full price.

What other reason is there to talk about something one is proud to have accomplished to others than to get an "atta boy" ?

well, yea there's the assumptions that you can't afford it or are struggling if you don't have an IPOD or poor, pinching pennies if you're clipping coupons..love, LOVE those stereotypes, LOL.
