With the economy being so crappy, I'm just wondering if there are very many SAHM's anymore.

That was, more or less, the question that the op asked.

we have always been well prepared for any potential set back like that.

A person can stay at home and earn a paycheck.

I left out this one...
Wahm = work at home mom

I think that covers the sah and earns a paycheck.

A person can work outside the home without earning a paycheck.

Yes, this one has yet to be defined, as far as I can tell. And yes, it adds to the confusion.

Some people would then be lunatics, since nothing we did changed.

So basically all we need is an acronym for the latter category. Since a person who stays at home and earns a paycheck is a WAHM (work at home mom), maybe a person who works outside the home without earning a paycheck is a SOHM (stay out of home mom).

I guess I misunderstood something. When you said you stopped paying a sitter and worked non-traditional hours, I thought you meant that you had been using childcare in order to work and then stopped. What was it that you meant?

i don't know what our lives would look like if i had the potential of making something similar or more than my husband, his income is far greater than mine could ever be.

When the kids were little I paid somebody to watch them typically from about 10 to 4 three or four days a week. When they went to school full time, my hours didn't really change but I magically became a SAHM. Now since they are in a private high school and I am paying people to educate them from 8:30. to 3:30 again did I become a WOHM again?
