Are working moms stretched too thin?

Do you think a mom who works full-time and has kids is stretched too thin?

I was working full-time up till November of 2005. Then I decided that it was all too much. I was exhausted and found that when I did get to spend time with my little guy (he is now 2 1/2) I was very impatient with him because I was soo tired. Also the stress of work often overflowed into my personal life (both with ds and dh).

Now that I have been home for over 6 months, I am finally starting to be more patient and am enjoying my son instead of rushing him along. If he want to take 20 minutes to get into the car - ok, no problem.

So - do you think that trying to juggle work, kids, marriage and all the stresses that come with those things is too much? (I did)

Maybe when my son is older - then I will go back to work and it might be easier because he will be more self-sufficient? Who knows? All I know is that for now, I am enjoying being a SAHM and am glad for the time I get to devote to my son and the lower stress levels (that I believe were very unhealthy for me).

Hey, that sounds good to me. Whatever works!

My son responds very well to verbal changes in my voice. So if I say "Noah, do not run into the street" with a bit higher pitch. He listens.

My kids are learning to be responsible, too. Only I do it with age & developmentally appropriate techniques. And telling a 24 - 29 month old he/she can't do something today because of something they did last week would not be age appropriate. However I can absolutley see that working with a 5 year old.

Actually, the second kid has been much easier. I have the "reinforcement" of my 6yo looking both ways, holding my hand, etc. The little one sees her brother and wants to do it like him. She's just starting to talk, but when we go to cross the street, and she sees a car coming, she yells "Car!". It's funny.

I agree. It's not only cruel, but developmentally inappropriate.

I don't know if this will be positive or negative info, but we tried for 2 years to have the second. She came along once we had given up. (We don't really have the extra cash to be spending on infertility treatments or adoption) So don't give up! :)

We have had our share of problems with pg. Noah is quite the little miracle. He was preemie, sick - the whole bit. Horrible pg too. But, we will try and hope for the best. And if it turns out he is an only...so be it!

Well, it sure worked with my 2.5 yr-old when she wandered away at the mall.
