Again, to beat a dead horse, it's really not about what each of us has experienced because we all have our anecdotes. A couple of posters have agreed with me that cheer, along with perhaps other activities, is not entirely free of elements that may sometimes may tend to objectify girls, which is all I've claimed. YMMV, of course.
The schools have their official dress codes, detailed in the student handbooks. I, OTOH, have an unofficial dress code which sometimes allows belly buttons, depending on where they're going. No butt cracks, though, and no cleavage unless they're in last year's bathing suits and I didn't get them new ones yet ;-)
It's moot anyway, since you've already agreed on the only point I've actually made. But to be fair, my "girlie show" was one of maybe one or two posts where I failed to qualify properly. Not bad, considering the number of posts on this topic.
Nor did I compare cheer to pole dancing. I was clarifying the distinction between performance and competition.
The reason I focused on cheerleading was that cheerleading was the topic of the OP.
As for positive remarks, I stated several times I agree cheerleaders are real athletes.
I did my best, but you won't believe me. Real life isn't all there is to it. My dd17 has always been a complete fan of Harry Potter, and it's strictly fictional. Movies, too, of course.
Oh no? How about this excerpt from your first post on the subject. <>

I could go on, if you'd like. I'd rather not. This was a bit time consuming.

Of course it's about how others view them. That's probably the only reason for dress codes of any kind.
The focus on cheerleading is because cheerleading is what was first mentioned in the thread, but we've also discussed other activities that can involve some of the same concerns, for those who have those concerns.

It's not the elements that objectivize a girl physically, it's how other's view those elements.
