I loved Little House books as a child. I used to fantasize about being Laura. I read the series again as an adult- I can't believe how much I romaticized as a child. Whild she did not describe every gory detail, she was open about their hunger and suffering - especially in the long winter. Plus, I don't think we would have been in the same politcal spectrum. She apparently was quite the conservative. I romanticized about being Anne Frank too- again- glossing over the unsavory aspects of her situation.
I have tried (in vain) to get my boys to read the Little House books- but i think it is a pipe dream. I guess I'll have to wait for granddaughters...
The fear meant listening to your parents. When you were told to do something, you did it, no questions asked. They knew better and that was it. The punishment of spanking was allowed and not just a "time-out" in a corner. It was going to hurt if you did something wrong and that was it. I rarely got spanked but I did and it did not affect me now. I would never hit my kids but it is against the law now and even though I do not condone it, I think it probably kept alot of kids in line in those days.
Okay, I see what your saying, I have to agree in many ways. Here is a innocent question, do you think it is more difficult to parent today then it was a decade or decades ago?
How do you know that you didn't have a pedofile living in your neighborhood when you were a kid? Not all pedofiles have police records. In fact, most of them are never caught. Just because you didn't know any doesn't mean they didn't exist.

Your right, they want them to be so advanced in academics they do not teach kids simple living skills.
that is a major problem.
