I never claimed they were not around I said they have changed.

I also do not think they are "all the cause of our countries woes."

Girls in general are getting more like that. The way they dress, the way they dance. I was at a mother-daughter event and could NOT believe the way some of the 7 year olds were dancing! The mother's thought it was great.

I'm reading the Little House series with my dd right now. I don't remember reading them as a kid myself (I may have?) but did watch the show. The books are actually quite forthright in describing the conditions and dangers they lived with. I was actually worried my dd was going to have nightmares from some of the things (when their house was surrounded by wolves, Indians coming in during the middle of the night, etc). There have been quite a few things we've read that I've used to discuss how different life is now - like how for Christmas one year, all Laura got was a stick of candy. She describes how much she savored that stick of candy. Can you imagine that nowadays? A stick of candy....oh, the good ole days when kids actually appreciated all that they had!

I think most kids feared their dads. Dads made the rules and you abidded by them, no matter what.

Again, as has been pointed out over and over, just because someone has never been caught does not mean they don't exist. Just because they continue to live in your neighborhood and you've known them since you were a kid does not mean any of them are not pedofiles. There are many many pedofiles who go to their graves having never been discovered. While I'm not saying it isn't possible that everyone you know is NOT a pedofile, you just can't be sure simply b/c you "know" them and have known them since you were a child.

When I was spanked or discipled it was for good reasons. I know 2 reasons was that I lied or asked one parent for something while the other said no. Those were BIG reasons then. I NEVER did that again.

This summer I bought my daughter shirts a size larger because I did not want her stomach showing.

I totally agree with you. This past year we learned stories of family members (my dh's family) that happened many many years ago. I am just speaking from personal experience of my little neighborhood. I LOVE it that we know everyone and know them very well. I grew up here and even new people that have moved in (except for the nasty pedifile!) are all very decent people too. Do I know their backgrounds 100%, no but the ones I grew up with for the major part, yes.
