I think the boys outfits are modest because there is no way a boy would go out in hot pants to perform in front of people! Lol. I bet its hard enough to recruit guys to be cheerleaders, if they had to wear a leotard or something, I think it would be impossible. Also, the girls do things that require quite a bit more flexibility. I think if I was going to...God help me...jump in the air and land in a split, Id rather be in a very short pleated skirt that would offer no resistance at all rather than pants that could get bunched up!
Plus, its not like cheerleaders used to wear pants and then switched over to skirts so it could become more sexualized. My grandmother was a cheerleader in the late 30's and of course the girls all wore skirts then. As time has gone on and skirt lengths have shortened...so have cheerleaders' skirts.
I totally think it is ok for kids to go to teen centers or things like that. We do have things like that here. It's when they start having nothing to do and get into trouble.
I am sure it happenes everywhere. It's just as we get older and inside with our children at night, we see it less. I know it is out there as there is vandalism that happens at night and kids getting in car accidents late at night.
I used to "roam around" quite a bit as a young teen in my gilfriend's condo development. We weren't "looking for trouble". We werent trying to drink or have sex or do drugs or vandalize anything. We would just walk around, go to friend's houses, "hang out", play cards with our friends when we got to their houses, play hide and go seek, etc.
I think you have a really frightened view of children that age. Theyre not all bad and out to get pregnant and on heroin, I promise!!
When the kids have nothing to do, they are hanging out in cars, at dead ends. The end of experimenting with things like drugs, drinking, sex because there is nothing else to do. We have teen centers here and things for teens to do at night which I think is great because when we grew up you either went to someone's house to hang out or hang out in the streets. There was never really much more to do after malls were closed.
Sorry to intrude but I was a cheerleader and my daughter was one for a year and they where "spanky pants" under the skirts. They are like underwear but bigger. You see nothing when they flip over.
Dont they usually wear bloomers under there? Like big undewear that is made of the same material as the skirt? I think people see less from a cartwheel with bloomers, then they do when a girl wears a bathing suit...even a modest one.
