My kids have way to much homework and the things they are doing are years ahead of what I was doing in their grade and at their age.

In your town and your neighborhood.

Thats not how it was when I was a kid, where I lived. It was somewhat rural and there wasnt much to do in terms of cafes, or close movie theatres or "teen centers". So most young teenagers would just kindve hang around together in packs and roam around. It was controlled in the sense that I grew up in a very nice area and you couldnt be out vandalizing things without people noticing/calling the police. But I dont remember really being "up to" anything.

Well they didnt "have to be" shortened. But since last time I checked no one nowadays wears skirts the length she wore to school and to cheerleading(way below the knee), it would seem silly for cheerleading skirts to be that long.

Especially considering the type of gymnastic things cheerleaders do nowadays. I dont think you can get tossed in the air, run and do flips and then jump in the air and land in a split in a poodle skirt. Lol.

Plus, like I and lots of other people have said, they wear things under the skirts to keep it decent.

We called them bloomers or briefs. They were great big polyester granny panties when I wore them under my cheerleading skirt in 1989-1990. Definitely not sexy. When it was cold, we wore tights or leggings under the skirt, but even then we wore the briefs. The skirts were mid-thigh and we wore them with sweater vests in the summer and long sleeved sweaters or sweater vests and turtlenecks in the winter. They were hardly provocative. Unless 100% polyester skirts and wool sweaters are your idea of sexy. Not so much for me...

It was fun. And it was a three season sport that required a great deal of practice and athleticism.

The athleticism of cheerleading has increased over the years and it has become a more demanding sport. The short skirts do allow for greater flexibility and movement. The pants (which are often track pants or poly pants) make building and stunts more difficult (traction is better on bare skin than fabric). Like most sports, it has evolved over the years and requires more athleticism than it did in the past.
