i don't remember reading the books so that never bothered me. I loved the TV show and grew up watching it. I would think that it's as close a representation as you can get and still have a family show that won't scare kids and give them nightmares.
It wasn't the fact of not showing the actual harsh reality. It was the fact that a) they never left Walnut Grove- the Ingalls family moved on from Walnut Grove afte one/two years. b) THe Wilder's never lived in Walnut Grove, c) Mary never married or had children, d) Grace was no where to be seen, e) THey never adopted a son.....
Been to Frankenmuth a few times. When we were kids we went there every couple of years for the restaurants. In 1998 when I was home visting my parents took me to the Christmas store.
Been a long time since I lived in MI. Left there is January 1980 when I joined the Air Force.
As I said, since i never read the series of books, none of those things bothered me. I actually loved watching Little house with my family (along with the Waltons). They don't make TV like that anymore. I've also watched episodes of Little House with my daughter and have enjoyed that together.
Partially b/c female cheerleaders have always worn skirts, I imagine and partitally b/c the combination of skirt/briefs allows for more flexibility (no bunching).
