If they are on the swim or dive team, they do.

A mall in our area just created a policy that no children under the age of 17 without an accompanied adult over the age of 21 will be allowed in the mall on Friday, Saturday or Sunday evenings.

I don't necessarily think that is a bad idea.

Until your child reaches the age of 12, then it doesn't support your view since it clearly states the age of 13?

It's interesting that you use the law to support your view, but once your child is 12 (two years less than what Illinois states) and when you are no longer living in the state....it's not relevant any more.

And that's at a school where the parents presumably have some sort of a clue. If you google the average number of hours per day, I'll bet it's more in the neighborhood of 3 or 4. But don't tell the kids that or they'll be trying to bargain with you. Not that they'd get very far, I'm sure ;-)

They compete rather than perform, and imo there is a difference. By the time you do the makeup, the skimpy costumes, and the bump-and-grind routines, it's more like a stage performance pitched to adults. I don't think swimming really compares wrt the hoochy coochy factor.

Where you see men and women dressed roughly similarly, as in track and field, or volleyball, it seems reasonable to assume they're dressed functionally for what they're doing. But a lot of sports, even things like skating and even gymnastics, partake of a certain "red hot mama" quality, even with young kids, that I find rather appalling.

You know how you can tell the difference? Because the athletes from countries that are more into modesty, such as China, more often take a more chaste approach.
