My 15 year old niece is in competitive cheerleading... sure, they look cute when they compete. But 6 days a week, every week, they wear athletic type clothing and work their bottoms off. It takes some serious athleticism and dedication.
I never claimed they are, a parent being home makes it less risky then leaving a child home alone. IMO! you disagree?
I never claimed the stats said anything about if the kid was home alone or not, I provided the stat's as information as to WHY, I think that leaving a child alone may prevent the problems.
Im not trying to prove a point. Why would I, I know what is best for my kid's. I do not need to prove that. Don't you?
Like I said, I agree to disagree. You seem to think leaving a 10 year old home alone is not risky. I DO! That is why I choose not to, the stat's provides enough evidence if the parent is home or not to make me feel comfortable with my choice. That is why I have a nanny to supervise and care for them when iam unable to.
I was only trying to make the case that cheerleading at times tends to objectify young girls, not that the most extreme examples of that are in any respect general.
there is nothing for me to support because that was never what i said or questioned. you said you raise your kids the right way - my contention is that you raise your kids the way you want to, because it is what you want to do, because there is no right way to raise kids. just as there is no best way to raise kids. what you see as being best is really nothing more than your personal opinion, not really what is best for kids. i really have to wonder what is it you are doing for your kids that you dont want to do, i cant think of anything i do for my kids that i dont want to do. my kdis are learning more than academics at school just by virtue of being there. what they dont need are classes in how to balance a check book or clean a bathroom or sew on a button. there are some classes offered at our high school along those lines so if a kid really isnt being taught those basic skills at home for some odd reason they are free to take them at school, my dd just doenst have the need or the time. what you are missing is that cheerleading is a sport. and finally after many years is is recognized as a sport. is is more dangerous than any other high school sport. Jennie

Oh, life is a glorious cycle of song,
I would argue that we're talking about young kids who tend to look up to adults as role models.
