Wouldn't being a dancer cause the same sort of objectification? (I'm thinking, ballet?)

In some people's eyes, I suppose it might.

On the contrary, I do recognize it as a sport and have acknowledged the athleticism involved.

There sure didn't seem to be any "sometimes" about your posts up to this point. And I'll agree with that, cautiously.

Not anymore, at least certainly not around here. Cheerleading is a sport in it's own right. I would guess cheerleading would be about team spirit about as much as ballet is about wearing a tutu and prancing around the stage. IMHO, they are both about strength, determination, athleticism, skill, and practice.

Lots. They dont' highlight boys in a sexual way, but they sure highlight them in a macho, mysoginist, chauvenist, violent way. Which is, imo, just as bad.

Sounds harsh, but necessary.

Because the competitions are performances, like a dance team.

You're right, some of the boys' activities do seem to deal at least somewhat in gender stereotypes.
