That assumes they're not already hearing that, or something similar. When I was a cheerleader, and then when I coached cheerleading (one summer and several private students), it was never even thought of that the glamour adn style of the DCC, etc is what they were trying to achieve. It was ALWAYS about the hard work, the skill, the strength. We talked about straight arms and high jumps and strong stunts; NEVER about the length of skirts or our makeup or anythign remotely glitz or sexual. It was quite obvious from the beginning that our squads were NOT in it for the stereotype or the popularity.
That's why I didn't extend my cheerleading to the college level. Where I went to college, the cheerleaders didn't have much skill, although they all had blonde hair, big boobs and short skirts. I took one look at the squads and said "No way. I'm not going to do that; that isn't cheerleading; that's pimping."
I'm not sure how often it does happen, but the potential for it would put me on my guard as a parent in a way that things like soccer or softball just wouldn't.
No, but I"ve never paid it to watch soccer, opera, swimming, diving, running, wrestling or a myriad of other things. And just commanding big dollars doesn't make something worthy.
I'll take Billy Joel over Pavarotti anyday. Pavarotti isn't *better* than BJ, he's just different. And I guarantee BJ makes a much better connection to the comman man than Pavarotti. And commands just as great of ticket prices these days too.
No need to avoid guilt by association, if people would quit using the sterotype to judge it. Should lawyers change their titles to avoid guilt by association? Or Senators?
AVoiding guilt by association just gives into the stereotypes and lets the closed and small minded people win.

Oh, life is a glorious cycle of song,
Who said I have a problem with cheerleading?
