I was reading another thread on this board and it got me thinking.

Heck, I'm all done with raising kids, and I still feel overwhelmed at times.

You are done raising your children but you are still a mother.

It was overwhelming for me and I think it is almost taboo to have difficulty adjusting to being a parent or finding the baby less than adorable and lovable etc. I can also easily see how any number of parenting situations, even if on the surface they do not appear difficult to an outsider, could be causing the parent to feel overwhelmed.

Ya know someone will always be able to "up" you. Interestingly the people who really *should* rarely do. I have a co worker. She has three kids. She works a gazillion hours a week. Her kids are 4, 8 and 16.

Sounds normal right?

Well her 16 year old has cerebral palsy. She spends most nights sleeping with her daughter, changes her diapers, etc etc. But she *never* says oh poor me. She just gets on with it and is amazing.

Anyway, someone I'm sure could "one up" her. She has alott of money. I'm sure some deal with her situation *without* resources and that would be more difficult.

Not sure when the mommy martyrdom started, but its alive and well!

>Regardless of our working status and the number of children we have isn't it just possible to get overwhelmed? Heck even without children life can be overwhelming right?<

I so agree with you. I don't think that it's marrital status, work status or the #/ages of children (if any); life has a way of grabbing us by the neck once in a while and just shaking us until we're dizzy just when we think that we have a handle on it. And what is stressful to one person or family isn't all that stressful to another.

I'll add a sub point to your caveat: don't one-up another persons rant. It's not a contest.

Chris; edited to add a word for clarity.

Yes, we all get overwhelmed. I have an only child.
