I agree with everything you said. I have been also through a lot from being a war child to losing people closest to me. I am sure it still cannot compare to what you and your family are going through and I am really sorry and I will say a prayer for your son. I know for sure that when I have children that I will also want to be home with them. It is very upsetting that when a woman decides to be SAH with or without children, she is sometimes judged. I guess I should not really care what others think. I know what is important to me and my husband and I hope that when we do have children that we can live comfortably on one income because I want to be home with my children.

I've often thought things were backwards. In youth, we should have tons of money and leisure while we have energy to spend them, living a retiree's life in our 20s, then begin working in our mid-30s when we've matured a bit.

I imagine it's kind of like being retired, except that you're still young.

Thanks for your words. I am glad you understand me because I do not how to explain this feeling. Also, I think we are happy and more relaxed as a couple because of that, it is just functioning well at this time. I do lot of work around the house, I am learning Italian, and will soon start bulding a third floor on the house so there will be lot of work then as well.

There doesn't sound like any reason for you not to be at home if you'd like to be. There's a very large amount of work that needs to be done in society and a lot of it is done by those who are outside the traditional work-force. You might consider using some of your time to help various community centers or churches in your area - volunteer your time to help others in your area and you'll be able to set

Thanks Chris and you are right, this is just working for us now. Maybe in future things will change and I am very good with just going with the flow. Things tend to change so quickly sometimes so it's good for everyone to be flexible and just work it out.

i can't speak for SAH without kids but for us, a SAHM with kids was best...you have nobody to answer for but yourselves and i think SAH should feel right before chosing the arrangement. i don't think moms are expected to be SAHMs but it is more common to see moms in the role than dads IME.
