There's a discussion on another messageboard and I just wanted to get the SAH/WOH perspective and the views of this board too :)

1.Do you think it is disruptive or negative to switch a child to 2 or 3 different daycares or elementary schools even if all of them are of similarly good quality?

My perspective, as a slightly older child that had to change schools a lot (made the transition from primary school to secondary school at 11, then at 12.5 had to move to another as my school closed down, then at 15/16 had to take classes at 3 different schools due to mad 6th form experiment in my town), it was extremely disruptive to both my studies (especially relationships with teachers) and my personal life, and gave me a quite jaded view of education.

I also think that the age of the child matters.

Dh and I have considered a move to another state.

I don't happen to believe that disruption is always a bad thing.

I think it depends on the age of the child.

I actually found the natural progression from elementary school to middle school a far bigger disruption for my son than the school change we did between K and 1st grade.

similarly, although I change schools a number of times in the elementary/middle school years, I found the move between 9th and 10th grades to be the most disruptive of all of them. To this day, I still consider the high school I attended in 9th grade more "mine" than the school I attended for 3 years and graduated from.
