"According to the Census Bureau figures for 2004 — which are the most recent — there are 36.7 million mothers of minor children in the United States. About one-third of them, 10.8 million, are stay-at-home moms.
According to an article penned by Al Neuharth, the founder of USA Today, in its May 11, 2006, edition, “Salary.com compensation experts estimate that stay-at-home moms work an average of 91.6 hours a week.” That's more than double the number of hours the average office worker puts in. He went on to say, “That should be worth $134,121 annually.”
He quoted the compensation analysts as figuring the lowest-paying parts of a mother's job are “housekeeper, laundry machine operator and janitor. Higher-paying categories include computer operator, facilities manager, psychologist and CEO.” With a 91.6-hour work week, 52 weeks a year, it works out to be $28.16 an hour."

How much money does one need? You could make the arguement that the 28,000 every three years that dh spends on cars could be invested...but why? We have PLENTY invested, we have a very nice portfolio. Maybe sometimes you just reach a point where you have enough...and then decide to "enjoy" life. Enjoy anyway you like...nice cars, big house, vacation home, boat, anything really.
Should people never get something they enjoy? Sure we could invest that money...but at the end of the day it's just money.
Okay I understand that SUV's aren't fuel efficient.
I'm not sure. Why does your whole family, dogs included have to be in the car at the same time?
I'm not sure if I said this but I really don't want a car ever. Therefore I'm not sure what alternatives are out there (how are stationwagons on gas/pollution?). I have never wanted a car, they are a HUGE waste of money, but I do realize that I will need one, in case my kid is sick in the middle of the night, or I need to get somewhere in an emergency - a friend in trouble. Otherwise I don't want one...and at this point in my life don't think I will use one very often.
...of course I could change, but that's just my view right now.
