the census bureau, and salary.com.

i found this in the local paper today, and granted, its in the dear abbey section, i found the information she gave was very interesting and pertained to a lot of questions in another thread.

"According to the Census Bureau figures for 2004 — which are the most recent — there are 36.7 million mothers of minor children in the United States. About one-third of them, 10.8 million, are stay-at-home moms.

According to an article penned by Al Neuharth, the founder of USA Today, in its May 11, 2006, edition, “Salary.com compensation experts estimate that stay-at-home moms work an average of 91.6 hours a week.” That's more than double the number of hours the average office worker puts in. He went on to say, “That should be worth $134,121 annually.”

He quoted the compensation analysts as figuring the lowest-paying parts of a mother's job are “housekeeper, laundry machine operator and janitor. Higher-paying categories include computer operator, facilities manager, psychologist and CEO.” With a 91.6-hour work week, 52 weeks a year, it works out to be $28.16 an hour."

Why does homeschooling make one a control freak?

I really don't understand the contradiction.

Expensive ones! LOL! I think it all depends on where you are in life. I know when we were first married I thought 20,000 was expensive. Once we were both working and making decent money I thought 40,000 was expensive. Once we moved to NJ and dh went into investment banking I thought 40,000 was a "good deal". It just depends person to person I guess.

At this point in our life it's not even about how expensive something is...it's more about "is this something we really want, is it "worth it" in that sense."

I could make the same statement too...I know what it's like to not have a lot of money. I know what it's like to live paycheck to paycheck. We've been there done that. Maybe he was just trying to let you know that he understands where you are coming from.

I've heard that public transit in some parts of the states can be really bad!

Is there a way you could share a car with your husband, and then only use SUV for trips?
I also don't plan on having big dogs, or taking my pets with me. I also don't plan on camping...so maybe for you there isn't another option.

How many times a year do you visit family? Could you rent for that weekend? Can the dogs not fit in a car without people in it, with you driving in the front? We only take our cats one at a time.

I see lots of people who live in Edmonton/Vancouver/Toronto that own SUVs and there's really no reason to be driving around the city with it. In these cities the public transport is awesome, and extensive.

I'm a high powered lawyer, actually. I'm sure you wouldn't think I look the part. My clients are ok with my merely winning for them.

Gates dresses much much better since he got married. He even dressed in jeans when he went to big name compaines to do presentations in the early days of Microsoft. Hasn't seemed to affect his success.

Some of the most sought after criminal lawyers in the country try very hard to look like country bumpkins. They understand that the jury has to trust and believe them, not envy them.
