the census bureau, and salary.com.

i found this in the local paper today, and granted, its in the dear abbey section, i found the information she gave was very interesting and pertained to a lot of questions in another thread.

"According to the Census Bureau figures for 2004 — which are the most recent — there are 36.7 million mothers of minor children in the United States. About one-third of them, 10.8 million, are stay-at-home moms.

According to an article penned by Al Neuharth, the founder of USA Today, in its May 11, 2006, edition, “Salary.com compensation experts estimate that stay-at-home moms work an average of 91.6 hours a week.” That's more than double the number of hours the average office worker puts in. He went on to say, “That should be worth $134,121 annually.”

He quoted the compensation analysts as figuring the lowest-paying parts of a mother's job are “housekeeper, laundry machine operator and janitor. Higher-paying categories include computer operator, facilities manager, psychologist and CEO.” With a 91.6-hour work week, 52 weeks a year, it works out to be $28.16 an hour."

We tend to increase our donations.

Bigger houses, bigger boats and bigger cars means bigger dumps of carbon gases into the atmosphere. I would rather live simply today and have tomorrow to live.

A SAHM who never contributes a penny to SS gets to collect half of her husband's SS amount. Her work status matters because you have to earn money personally to contribute to SS. People who have not contributed should not collect. Period.

Maybe it's regional - the CEO's around here tend to dress in dockers and polos, just like everyone else. Even at work, unless they are meeting with the banks or the board of directors.

The *really* wealthy people I know don't sink a lot of money into things like clothes. I knew a lady that had a $50,000 doghouse but dressed in sweats from Target.

Is there a way you could share a car with your husband, and then only use SUV for trips? --we try to share when we can but my DH and I aren't always working in close together because my consulting job moves around a lot.

How many times a year do you visit family? --they are three hours a way and they expect us about once a month.

As a former childcare worker, I would like to know:
If this is true, then we should demand payraises as well! How much are childcare workers worth?

Ok, well then I guess for you an SUV is the best option. I still think they are disgusting gas guzzlers that are ruining the earth. But you have no option so that's too bad. And you're at least using it for camping...which is what they show on the ads right...but I know people, some of my friend's parents that drive them - when they really don't need them...and that's what bothers me more than people like you who really do need it.

one of the things i have learned form having kids, especially my 15 year old, is not to judge others by looks. it was not an easy lesson to learn but has been well worth learning

I realize that not everyone cares about conservation.
