you're really hung up on that 11 hour figure --

I spend 3.3 hours a week commuting.

But that would only be true if WOH FT automatically meant that much commute time.

...sounds like you save much more than 11 hours a week not cleaning or doing household chores :)

I just use 11 hours a week because I'm familiar with it (and because unlike the posters here, many people in large metro areas commute an hour each way to and from work each day.

Forgive me for not remembering, but is the 11 hours a week the hours you gained by moving from being a WOHM to a WAHM? If so, and it made your life better, I can see why those 11 hours are important to you. All of us try to balance all kinds of demands and priorities, and for you, those 11 hours a week might be the tipping point that makes your life what you want it to be rather than too....busy, stressed, overcommitted, whatever.

honestly not giving a damn what anyone else thinks of me saves tons of time -- once you stop worrying about comparing yoru life/house/dress size/child/job to everyone else's its amazing the time you free up!

Slightly off the beaten path here, but it just occurred to me that I have no real idea how much time I spend commuting in a week.

When I had a commute when we were living in the Bay Area, it was anywhere from 20 to 60 minutes depending on traffic or time of day. And I learned that I don't mind a commute of reasonable length when one is actually driving and moving, but sitting in the same spot for five minutes or longer because of gridlock turned me ugly fast.

I miss a lot of things about California, but traffic is NOT one of them!

Mines pretty darn short. About 7 minutes.

When school is in it adds 3-4 minutes. If I work past 5:00 that can also add a few minutes.

But like with every job, you get used to it and some days are better than others.
