I have had several jobs where the conditions were such that I never really "got used to them." I realized after a few weeks or months that this job was not for me long term, and got out. Not everyone is cut out for every job, and while one person may find the work of teaching sometimes physically exhausting but mentally stimulating enough to make up for it, others may be overwhelmed by the demands of the job.

The worst job I ever had was being a teller at a Savings and Loan. It was dull work, closely supervised, and I had to dress up nice every day for a job that paid peanuts. The hours were good but that is all it had going for it, as far as I was concerned. Others liked it for about the same reasons I hated it.

All WOHs have some commute. SAHs and WAHs don't.

But for some it's so short that it's practically negligible.

Yeah....I live about a mile and a half from work. My "commute" next year is gonna be a bit tougher because the kids' school is moving to a new building. I have been spoiled because for the last six years, the school had been on the way to work....now it's going to be four miles away. So I have a morning commute that involves taking the kids to school before I go to work, which will be probably a thirty minute round trip. I am not happy. On the other hand, if I were a SAHM, I'd still have this four eight mile "commute" every morning....

My "commute" is less than 2 miles. It's about 1/2 hour by foot or bus and 5 minutes by car-- maybe 10 when the students are in town. Today, DH came to pick me up at work at 4. I came home, realized we needed more eggs. I went to the grocery store, picked up the eggs and a few other things and was home by 4:40. Have I mentioned lately how much I love living where I do?

Also, if an 11 hour a week commute bothered someone else, she might switch jobs to something closer or move closer to work, rather than opting to work at home.

I'm so glad that I know myself well enough to know, that teaching is not the job for me.

Except for those who litterally walk just a couple of blocks down the street...which some here have already told you that they do.

Don't I get to count the distance I drive when I take the kids to school, even though I'm a sahm?
