Do what you want. Just don't try to pretend that you're doing something great for mankind by quitting teaching so you can make more money.
No, I'm not looking for a pat on the back from society for raising my kids *or* for working. Like most people--including you--I work for my own interests, not to save the world.
I think you made a really good choice to stop teaching.
