I'm just curious if you are posturing too or do you really not see that many parents make a distinction between chores for the entire household/yard versus a child being responsible for taking care of himself ~ cleaing up his own messes but perhaps not his sibling's messes, cleaning one's own bedroom, using the hamper, bringing one's own plates to the counter or dishwasher but not his sibling's?

I'll tell you a secret.

i think customs and invitations like that vary with the age of the child and the area that you live in. Generally around here, if the child is older, the party is for the CHILD -- not a BBQ for all the child's friends' families.

i thought your "secret" to avoiding yelling was to do all the chores yourself???

sure, it avoids the yelling, but then you're the one stuck with all the work, right?

I'm still not seeing a problem with kids pitching in with age-appropriate chores, even if a little yelling needs to be involved

My view is not very limited, as it is my experience in my community and it is, you know, my experience. I'm also pretty sure you are not part of my community, and you are an adult. I would expect you would know how to act in public.

I was speaking when I was a child, the one who did no chores and didn't do much around the house.

Do you own children readily offer to help out when outside the home or do you do it for them?

Yes they do. They also help around their own house and have manners when they go to others homes.

Even my one little chore I was asked to do was not something I wanted to do either as a kid-lol!!

And that is a BIG thing now that families do NOT have dinnertime together anymore. Parents put aside their own things to spend at least a half hour with their kids at dinner. Now volunteering, charities, friends and other adult activities seem to be more "important".

ummm, the whole POINT of "ignoring" someone is not responding to their posts...Why in the world would they respond just to tell you that they're not going to respond to you, LOL!
