Why would my middle schooler need to clean or cook in the 2 hours she would be home? Just like any other snack she has when I am home, it can be something that does not require cooking.

Or opening, or cutting, or spreading with a knife. I think the point is that a child who cannot handle sort of basic self care would be ill-equiped to handle any kind of emergency or unusual situation that occurred.

I don't know....I have a skinny kids, they can open a bottle of water, I don't think skinny has anything to do with it really.

And? I used to be on a plane with my parents but no where near them when I was 8/9 years old. Kids do it all the time-shrug.
