I probably wouldn't, and I can't imagine that PA would, either. And I don't know her specific situation, but in the case of my father, there were YEARS when he was sober -- and years when he wasn't. I was lucky in that from the time he and my Mom married until I was about six, he never drank. He started up again when I was six, and my mother left when I was almost ten. He stopped again when I was thirteen and didn't start up again until I was out of the house.

I am still wondering how you managed to overlook or ignore the fact that PA both had dinner with her friends, and had her friends over to dinner.

She has on occasion, very far and few between. She usually goes to their homes before or after dinner. Any sleepovers usually start after dinner so we don't have many of her friends for dinner.

That is interesting. We live in a different type of neighborhood. The kids here, particularly, the boys, from about the age of seven or eight until about twelve or so, tend to hang around "in packs" after school, and they are in and out of each other's homes all the time. After middle school, they usually have more homework and other after school responsibilities and activities, so the "pack" kind of disappears, until the summer. All summer long the kids are up at the park playing ball, or over at the elementary school playing ball, or swimming in the neighborhood pool, or whatever. This is kids from the age of seven or eight up until maybe driving age in the summer. And more often than not, they will be at somebody's house come dinnertime, often ours. I will usually count heads around 5:30 or 6 to see how many we will be serving. They might them migrate over to somebody else's house to see who has something good for dessert. And I swear, all I have to do is DIAL the pizza place on Friday afternoon and the boys' sixth sense will direct them to our place!
