Take the average SAHM with two children and the average WOHM with a 40 hour a week job.

Even household chores are more fun than commuting.

It relaxes me to be at home, even if I'm doing housework.

oh so NOT.... when i commute I have my ipod plugged into the car -- Liza and I sing our way to school then I sing my way 20 minutes up the highway in bilssful peace. the only time its a pain is when there's a blizzard- then I work from home.

house hold chores are not more pleasureable than anything except maybe root canal and sitting through an acordian recital.

Any SAH who's as time pressed as a WOH who WOH 40 hours a week is seriously overcommitted, or should be getting paid for what she does.

But that would only hold if being at home with children and house work equalled "smelling the roses" and being at work meant not smelling any roses. I think there are too many variations in people, jobs and SAH situations to make your assumption reliable. Personally, I have plenty of "rose-smelling" connected to my work and a severe aversion to house-cleaning and the other minutiae of running a household.

Yes, I think mileage varies hugely on this one. BC (Before Child), I did commute on and off for several years, for a while by bike, which I always enjoyed, and for another long while on the subway. On the subway I always read a book, or else amused myself deciphering the Spanish in the ads (I do not know any Spanish). Either activity is immensely more amusing and gratifying to me than doing house work

Not me! First of all, I prefer being out somewhere to being home, and I prefer almost any activity to house work. House work makes me miserable and cranky.
