We didn't actually plan it out - it worked out that when my older DS was a baby, I was working full time at a job where I could bring him at first, and then he alternated staying with my mil and the mother's morning out where I worked. Then after I resigned I decided to do temp jobs and some management for my husbands freelance business so I could stay flexible. That worked out great until I got pregnant with my second son (7 yrs. later). Then I did substitute preschool and freelance transcription for many years. The last few years I taught preschool permanent part time, until this year when my younger son's elementary school went year round. That didn't work with the traditional schedule preschool. So now I'm a stay at home/housewife. I am very busy within my children's school communities, on several boards and volunteer frequently. My husband travels often so I have to be (want to be) extremely flexible so I can cover everything that could come up.

This is working for my entire family right now, we're all very happy with our lives and I am VERY FULFILLED (I understand my life's not for everyone and respect other's choices).

We had it all planned out, with the exception that we didn't expect to have to wait 7 years to adopt dd18.

I planned to spend as much time at home as possible, but to neither SAH or WOH full-time. Originally I was going to go to medical school, but residency and a medical practice were contrary to my family plans, so I opted to prepare for a more family-friendly career. So that's what I'm doing - working part time while spending lots of time at home with my baby.

We had it planned out that I would go back to work. DH was a SAHD for about 6 months due to a layoff but then DS#2 went to dc when he found another job.
