Ah, my kids recently took over doing the dishes, so maybe that's why I don't mind them---I don't do them!

Lucky you. About the king and gopher snakes, that is. King snakes eat other snakes (that's why they are called "king" snakes), especially rattlesnakes--they are immune to rattlesnake venom. I've never heard of an all black species, though. The ones that I know about are banded--black with white, yellow, and/or red/orange bands. Except for Angela's king snake which is an albino. Even for a snake, it's stupid. And gopher snakes will keep down the rodent population.

Where (in general is fine if you don't want to be too specific) do you live?

I think that doing your kids' homework for them or micromanaging when and where and how they do it is a very different thing from checking it over when it's done and helping them with any problems.

Ah, that answers my location question. I was wondering because of the kind of wildlife you listed. Have you seen coyotes yet?

My husband is currently on sabbatical from housework with our kitchen remodel going on, so maybe that iswhy I feel the day to day pressure of tasks more.

I am coveting your off the kitchen laundry space now.

All it takes is one parent with a big career, and more than one child in activities.

I'd be lost without my dishwasher - what's the matter with yours? If you want the kids to empty it or even load it, and you're worried about knives, just don't include them.

I agree that they have to get used to it, but this year has been a transition year.

I think you can't generalize, any more than you can generalize as to what all moms' goals are.
