My sister lives outside of Hartford.

Well, I guess I consider recitals and Eagle Scout ceremonies to be special events.

I stand corrected...I should have differentiated between regions.

Hartford and the 95 corridor are VERY Different. From Madison to NYC you are looking at huge prices for the priviledge of living on the train line and on the sound. Grantd there are a few towns in there that are somewhat affordable....East Haven, West Haven, Stratford, Bridgeport, the majority of them are pretty freaking expensive.

There are still many places in the 'middle section" of the US where you can get an affordable home. Its the coast that are insane, IME.

I drive down I-95 to get to work and often take the Merritt Parkway home (it's faster).

Not as many people live in the "middle section" either.

I think Indianapolis is the cheapest major metro area.

I grew up in the city that is right next to the Valley on Route 8.

Well, what I said is that among the parents I hang out with, it's pretty much a given that one or both parents attend most of their kids activities, by which I said I meant stuff like piano recitals and soccer games.
