That's nice, mine wasn't and didn't need to be and my kids don't need it to be either. They would laugh at me.

I'm not interested in debating a claim I never made.

We taught the girls (and Dylan) to assume that all snakes are dangerous/poisonous when met "out in the wild" even if the wild is in the backyard or on the driveway. Stop and back slowly away from the snake. Then go tell an adult. Most snakes would prefer to run away from a human, even a child. We're too big to be food. But they will defend themselves aggressively. Snakes kept as pets shouldn't be handled without the owner being there. Same for snakes in petting zoos or used in an assembly. And always wash your hands afterwards since they (usually) eat live food.

I agree. In my daycare the staff often retired to the director's office for a cold beer (it probably wasn't THAT often, mostly Friday towards quitting time). All the kids would gather by the door and chant "Mrs Miller (director), Mrs Miller, she sure likes her miller." We had a very good time doing that and I don't think any of us were scarred for life either.

That looks like a desert kingsnake. The CA ones that I'm familiar with are banded, similar to coral snakes. Both are great to have around the yard. They eat small rodents as well as snakes.

Yep and they tend to strike first instead of attemping to run away when confronted.
