Physical abuse. Sexual abuse is a whole other story.

There are many roads to excellence, but that is yet another discussion.

certainly frustration will not cause everyone to morph into abusing their children, everyone deals with frustrations in different ways and everyone has a different level where they begin to feel frustration - but i would bet, and no, i have no proof to back this up, that frustration is present in most cases of abuse.

You did not upset me. My point was the frustration is not the only cause. Most normal people do not abuse. Like you mentioned, there are background factors.

Yep. My second had colick. There was a couple of times, my next door neighbor, would take her and walk her around the block a couple of times in order to give me a break.

The thought to hurt her never crossed my mind. If it did, I would have seeked help.

Well, in two years, we'll have the kids in four different schools.

No, it really isn't. All abuse leaves lasting, long-term effects on the child.

I never stated frustration was not present. I stated it was not the sole cause. You are not going to get a normal parent who is frustrated abusing their children. A mother who shakes her baby to death probably suffers from PPD or has other issues. The adult has no coping skills to deal with things b/c of their issues.

I have never heard of anyone stating child abuse and the reason for child abuse was "simple". If I had ever been abused, I would hope that no one ever told me the reason was just simply a bad day.

Also, it depends on what you define abuse. I do not spank or touch my children in anger, ever. I think it is an ego-crusher and wrong. However, i would not say it is abuse. Someone else might. There are people who use belts or paddles to spank their children and while IMO only it is abusive it legally (in a lot of states, I think) is not abuse.
