LOL, I was thinking the same thing. I have lived in one neighborhood with drug dealing, but that was a really down-and-out place, and did not stay there any longer than absolutely necessary.

Yes, it does not sound the sort of place you would want to bring kids up, if you could help it.

That is why you get RID of the riff raff like that and why you get to know your neighbors.

Once again, a wrong assumption with no basis.

I would think, that if the dealing was that obvious, that there wouldn't be any need for drug wars, because it would be very easy for the authorities to find and shut down all the activity.

Just a question.

Most places in Europe, it is still considered rude to ask this question, unless there is some obvious reason. Besides, if you hang out in the ex-pat community, you can't take people's professions at face value anyway much of the time.

Well, sometimes it is that obvious, but, IME, only in pretty down-at-heels places. That one really bad neighborhood where I lived briefly, we were advised not to go out in front of the building at a certain hour of the late afternoon. That was the time when the local smack dealer set up shop there.

It was very organized. The dealer stood in one place. The customers lined up about 15-20 feet from him. Before getting to the dealer, the customers had to clear a bodyguard, who checked them for weapons and made sure they were not cops. There were also look-outs on the corners, who were yell "Red Light!" if they saw cops.

Drug dealing certainly happens in nice neighborhoods too, but not in obvious ways like that.
