This theme was touched upon in another thread and I wanted to discuss it further.

Side note on knowing what is going on in my neighborhood. I was in my bedroom looking for something to wear tonight. All of a sudden I hear sirens. Look out the window ans see they are right here at my corner. Throw shoes on, walk down and see it was a car accident, no one I knew, no one was hurt, so I went back home. Realized that I have NOTHING to wear tonight and left dor Kohls.

I did NOT even hear the accident and did not have the scanner on.

Actually, it is the mid level drug dealers that deal out of their house. Low level that deal on the street. So a middle middle class neighborhood would be perfect. It is their bosses that live in the nicer sections of town - but they don't deal out of their houses.

I agree, you can't tell much by an "average" household income.

For example, the average household income for my county is more than $100k. Our zip code is over $150k. But neither tells me about an individual neighborhood. My neighborhood is probably over $200k. We aren't a swanky one and we are not the least expensive one. Mostly it is two earner professionals that are in their mid thirties and up. Around here, the typical professional with 15+ years of employment earns in the $100-$150k range (this includes federal employees and other similar types). So, two earner couples earn more than $200k, fairly easily. It is the only way to afford the outrageously priced houses.

Do you know the average household income in your area? Just asking as I have looked online and that is quite high compared to many other towns around me at least and I live in a high COL.

True. I know many others who are way above that average and there are others who are below it. It all depends also when you (in general) bought your home. Most of us my neighborhood have been here for so long that we have bought long before the real estate skyrocketed.
