This theme was touched upon in another thread and I wanted to discuss it further.

nope. and I don't care. the only household income I care about is mine. the only standard of living I care about is mine. I could care less what my neighbors make or dont' make. I work all day long with truly philantrhopic donors who have net worths in the multi millions but you'd never know to look at them or where they live. this is why I love northern New England. We don't care about keeping up with the Joneses. Frankly we don't even want to know the Joneses and would just as soon preferr they stay on their side of the fence...

I just like to get an idea of where I fall for where I live. I can live on alot less than many new home buyers around me.

Exactly, thank you. If the hood is upscale, drug dealing is done with house calls. It is safer for everyone, but it can only work if the customers stock up with each buy. IOW, the customers need to be quite well off (better off than 96K a year).

LOL, I have always thought that New England had a lot in common with Scandinavia. One thing that cracks me up in the Danish gossip mags is when they have pictures from some swanky do, like the new year's thingy the Queen hosts. So there are pictures of all the dignitaries who attended, along with info on the dresses. There are always 2-3 ladies who report having sewn their own gowns. Even if a Danish chick has plenty of money, she will often find it silly to spend a fortune on a dress she will only wear once.

Oh, and Helena Christensen's (the model) mom has a second hand shop in my mother's neighborhood.

I just looked mine up and in 2008, the average income was over $100,000, with average home prices of $135,000, and a cost of living index below the national average.

So I have to say that $96,000 in a high cost of living area is not poor, but not impressive in any way.

I want to look mine up, too. Where did you go to look up yours?

Just plug your town into Wiki and look under "demographics." For some towns there will be an official number and then a more recent estimate in a parenthesis.

well they're not quite warren buffett level - but who is - but the people I have the good fortune to meet with and work with on their charitable giving are truly among the best I've ever known...their committment to keeping the performing arts alive and vital is humbling
