This theme was touched upon in another thread and I wanted to discuss it further.

"Ok, not to be rude and violate TOS but are you KIDDING ME that the average home price is ONLY $135,000 but the average income is over $100,000???? -bawaahhaa."

Actually, I went to verify/doublecheck this, and you are correct, that is not right. The average home price was a 2000 statistic ($135,000), but the median income was a 2008 statistic. I will find a matched set of statistics and update you, though I do not expect it to be significantly different. The housing prices have not climbed here as rapidly as they did in some markets.

Another town in our school district (bordering our town) has actually been on national lists as one of the most favorable income to housing cost ratios.

I am not going to post my own town on here, because there was once a poster who used to be kind of stalkerish and I do not actually want her to know where I live.

But this town has numbers very comparable to my town, and was also featured on cnn. So I thought you may find it more believable that there are towns with this income/housing cost ratio. This has a slightly lower income than ours, and a slightly lower home price. But percentage-wise, ratio was the same.

Edgewood, KY

Population: 8,891
Median family income (per year): $100,972
Median home price: $167,000*
Civic spirit runs high in Edgewood. Each new resident receives a welcome packet upon arrival, and more than 50 residents volunteer at the local fire department.

Community leaders pride themselves on the fact that neighbors stop to greet each other on the streets, and they tend to congregate in one the city's four parks or other public spaces. Cleanliness and safety are other points of pride, and popular community events are available year-round.

Okay, for my zip code, it says the median household income is $93k and median house value is $224k.

I must be living on the wrong side of this zip code, LOL.

My area has a larger churn rate than yours. We probably have a 10% churn rate. So at this point most of my neighborhood bought after us.

We , too, have benefited from the big rise in housing costs, so our mortgage is about 25% of the house's value. Employers don't look at what ones mortgage is and pay accordingly. As a result, income has kept up with the neighborhood, so we have more money to spend elsewhere. We are extremely lucky.

They look good but what good are they? They look like they would hurt if you walked any distance in them or wore them for any amount of time.
