This theme was touched upon in another thread and I wanted to discuss it further.

A "lot of money" is relative. A $20 pair of shoes would be more of "a lot of money" in one household than $900 in another household.

Spending money one does not have is bad.

Only spending money on oneself and totally ignoring those that have less in life is bad.

But I see no issue with someone spending money they can afford on something that they want.

The idea of "fake shoes" always amuses me. It makes me think of holograms, like I go to put my foot in the shoe and find out that the shoe was just an illusion.

Oh I completely agree. I have no issue with someone spending money they can afford on something they want. They can spend that $900 on life-size sculpture of themselves made out of beef jerky for all I care, but I would still consider it a silly waste of money.

That seems to be a contradiction. In my mind seeing something as a silly waste of money is seeing it is seeing it as an issue. An issue enough to have an opinion about it.

Hmm..I don't think I said most salaries are published. The majority of salaries are NOT published and not sure why it is "taboo" to speak finances and salary with family, friends and neighbors but not people online. lol.

Why?

In my mind, something isn't an issue if it isn't a problem. I see no problem with someone spending money they can afford on something they want, therefore I have no issue with it. It's a waste of money, but that's not a problem if they can afford to waste the money.

So you would discuss your salary with someone IRL like you have done online if they asked outright?

lol!! Oh, I WILL wear the shoes again. I did buy an outfit for the party but I plan to wear it all again.

I have to tell you my most comfortable shoes are ones with the higher heels. You would think not but I find certain pairs, like a pair of high heeled boots just as comfortable as my sneakers and flip flops.

(My wedding shoes were embellized with beads, pearls, sequins so they could not be used again and I wouldn't have anyway. I have never worn a bridesmaid dress again either)
