This theme was touched upon in another thread and I wanted to discuss it further.

Not really. I budget for the bills which is the minimum we would need and anything over we will save, pay bills and use for extra spending money.

Just wondered as I have never been in a situation where my salary was being discussed to the point that I told someone how much it was. Thanks anyway though :)

My husband and I have separate accounts that we have our paychecks deposited into, and we also have most of our bills debited out monthly. I know the total household income because of our taxes, but I don't see his pay stubs or his checking account unless I have a reason to. Every once in a blue moon he will ask me to write a check on his account, usually because he's out of town and forgotten to pay something so I see what he's had deposited that month, but on a month to month basis I don't really know what's coming in to his account. I also have no clue what our utility bill is any given month because he pays that directly, I never see the bill. In return I pay our cell phone bill for five people and I think most months I get the better deal on that.

I didn't say I would tell you. I said you could ask. Why do you want to know?

Yep, that is exactly right. I get to decide what I want to share.

There is absolutely no identifying information in his salary and pension. There could be identifying information in what he does.

You got to decide to not answer my question about why you want to know. How does his occupation have anything to do with anything in this thread?

"I think they're wasting a LOT of money, and I think that's a shame."

How is it necessarily a waste? Should there be no artisan shoemakers? Should shoes and clothes always be of the cheapest materials made under sweat-shop or near sweat-shop conditions to keep labor costs down? If the labor and materials cost that much for a pair of shoes, either such shoes should never be made in the first place, or else people making such shoes should be paid starvation wages (so that people don't waste money on them).

Yes, those are pretty indeed.
