This theme was touched upon in another thread and I wanted to discuss it further.

I don't totally agree with either of you.

SAH is only ALL about finances if you can't afford it. Because if you can't afford it, discussion is over; none of the other factors

what's your opinion of a SAHM who regularly kicks back with a book, plays and watches TV with her kids, gets her kids here adn there, keeps a house - not perfect but - straightened, keeps laundry up, dinner started/prepared, etc.

i agree for the most part, SAH is more than finances but it starts with having enough.

I want to put my answer out there first and then I will go back and read the other responses.

I don't think there is anything inherently wrong with staying at home when you don't have children yet.

-has no trouble at all filling her days, which is what I would worry about, what would I do all day? -

I have never ever once wondered this in nearly 15 years. Before I began sah I didn't think I'd wonder it.

But I do know this is a valid concern for some.

When I decided to SAH I figured I'd be busy with kids, but now that I've been AH for a number of years I can see how I'd be plenty busy even if I was SAH without kids. I can think of a long list of things that I could do to keep me busy, things I don't have time right now with so many kids around but would like to do.
