That is a pretty judgemental statement, don't you think?
So do you tell these people who spend all their time watching TV or twiddling their thumbs all day what you think of them?
Did you grow up volunteering? Did your parents and siblings volunteer?
That was quite rude to tell someone that their hobby is not meaningful. Do you have a hobby? How would you feel if someone told you they felt it had no meaning?

I did not mean just on a debate board. I also meant in your real life.
