This theme was touched upon in another thread and I wanted to discuss it further.

Yes, hourly jobs are most likely to show the salary. Not that there is anything wrong with hourly jobs, correct?

None of your neighbors have been cordial to come over, maybe bring something to eat to welcome you into the neighborhood?

Yes, if you are going for a job in a school district, the EXACT pay is indicated.

I never said I ASKED anyone about their salary, EVER.

If there is illegal activity going on in the home or people living there that should not be, I WILL call the authorities whether it be the police or the place that is in charge of the home.

Yep. We just met a neighborhood family at our local parade. They introduced themselves, told us what they did for a living, who their kids had for teachers, etc. They also told us about the people they bought the house from before. They asked about our neighbors as they were interested also who they were, what they did also.
I am VERY happy that everyone has everyone's back in my neighborhood. No one turns the other way when something is going on and watches out for not only their families but others. It is kind of like an "un-official" neighborhood watch.

Why is knowing someone's occupation and place of employment private?

It's not normal around here either.

None of the above really tells me all that much about who they are.

No, it does not. Visiting with them, inviting them over, going to their homes TELLS you about WHO they are. Do you do that? What type of relationship do you have with your neighbors?

Was anyone making a qualitative statement about hourly jobs?
