This theme was touched upon in another thread and I wanted to discuss it further.

Maybe it is just too different as I would never consider finding out someone's occupation to be gossipy."

Doing so in the manner you describe would definitely count as gossipy, in my opinion. Obviously, you feel differently. I can only hope your neighbors feel the same way you do :-).

Yes, I hope my neighbors are as open and friendly as I am. I consider my neighbors friends, not just neighbors.

Are you friends with your neighbors? How much do you know about them and how did you find out?

Do you consider a person's occupation private? Why?

Reading the local paper is NOT searching but if you think so-lol!!

If I CHOOSE to look on a local site then that is my choice as it IS out there for the public to see and not sure WHY it would be wrong to see it.

Yes, the longer you live in an area, the more you know about the homes and families living there.

LOL, unofficial neighbor watch, i like that.

:)

i like that we're approachable adn so are neighbors ( for the most part, i won't dig up dirt about a neighborhood kid ). i will say the only memory that stands out as odd or something i sort of took a break from before answering was when a neighbor asked how much we bought the house for, i know it's public record and i'm sure she knew what the house was listed for but to come out and ask was a little bold. but i guess none of that it so over the top or that uncomfortable, IMO. i had nothing to lose and i'm not about keeping secrets, either.

We are friends with our neighbors and LOVE that they are all watching out for each other as we do the same for them.

that said, for a total stranger/someone at a new house developemnt to reveal "what kind of occupations people have" in the neighborhood? i forget who wrote that but that's just weird. you have to wonder how much business is gained or lossed in revealing that, it almost sounds unethical and would certainly be if a realtor disclosed such a thing.

Very true. You learn these things from time living in a certain place. I do not know everyone's occupation but for the majority I do as I have lived in the area almost my whole life, many people have stayed, new ones that have come in are friends with us.
